The Kings World Trust for children and Kings School operate a volunteer programme in India to support the work of our Indian staff.  Volunteers may be skilled or unskilled but all should be committed to working with disadvantaged children and young people.


Selection procedures for volunteers :

  • Aged 17 or over and physically fit
  • Complete and submit application form
  • Provide 3 references specifying suitability to work with disadvantaged children
  • Attend interview
  • Fundraise a minimum of £ 400 for KWTC before departure to India
  • Provide a Police Disclosure report for volunteers who are not straight from school
  • Pay own flight to India
  • Provide support money in India for food and accommodation in Trust purpose built accommodation.

Restrictions

  • Volunteers come for a minimum of one month & maximum of 3 months. (this may be varied by arrangement)
  • Minimum age 17 years
  • KWTC will take volunteers with physical disabilities but those in wheelchairs may experience mobility limitations due to sandy conditions
  • All volunteers, except those direct from school, are required to provide a Police certificate showing any criminal convictions.  Some convictions will exclude applicants from selection.
  • Once in India all volunteers will work a mutually agreed programme under the control of the Trust Director.
  • Volunteers may be skilled or unskilled.  Skills required by the Trust are
  • Doctors, Nurses and trained medical staff
  • Teachers in all subjects
  • TEFL Teachers
  • Music, Art & Craft teachers
  • Sports specialists
  • Sailing & Motor Boat Instructors

Unskilled volunteers may include:

  • Gap volunteers direct from school
  • University students in holidays
  • Medical students on electives
  • Mature individuals who never took a Gap year in their youth
  • Retired individuals with time & experience to after

All volunteers will be involved in Teaching English to children during their placement with KWTC.
